Past Tense is a vinyasa-based studio. While vinysasa is translated as “place in a special way,” it has become an umbrella term for flow-style classes. At Past Tense, how vinyasa is interpreted is intentionally broad and varied. We understand what you may need on Monday is different than what you need on Thursday or in six months from now so we hope our wide-ranging approach lets you find what you need at any given point in your week or life.

Flow + Restore

Schedule

This class combines the movement and flow of vinyasa with the deep relaxation of restorative yoga. We’ll begin with a dynamic flow, connecting breath with movement to warm up our muscles, move tension through the body, and prepare body and mind for rest. Then, we’ll slow down and relax in deep, therapeutic stretches that rejuvenate the body, restore our nervous system, and allow us to reconnect with ourselves.

This class is recommended for those with some yoga experience and a solid understanding of the basic poses and transitional movements of a vinyasa flow class. 


Friends + Family Flow

Schedule

Some things just go together naturally – Cat and Cow, thanks and giving, you and yours. So we’re pairing up a few of our favorite things to start Thanksgiving off in the best way possible. Join Emma Silverman for a 30-minute vinyasa flow followed by 30-minutes of self-massage and restorative yoga, a pairing designed to leave you feeling ahhh-mazing. AND, you get to bring a buddy for free so you can practice together even if you can’t be together this holiday. After you register, please email Kelly your friend’s full name and email and she will register them as well.


Fundraiser Flow

Join Nichole Ferrigno for an Outdoor Flow 1/2 in support of an Afghan family who recently arrived in DC after fleeing Kabul. A group of Mt. Pleasant families is assisting this single mom and her two teenage daughters build a financial base to cover rent and living expenses until her paperwork is processed and she can legally work here. Suggested donation is $25 via GoFundMe. All funds go directly to the family. This is a BYO Mat and Props event.

Thanksgiving morning join Nichole Ferrigno for a Vinyasa Flow filled with gratitude—for movement, breath, love and being here. We'll end with a long, yummy guided savasana. This hybrid class is our gift to you—we are so grateful for your ongoing support and community. Sign up online for the livestream session. Sign up in the studio for the in-person class. Jingle Bell Flow

Across cultures and spiritual traditions, light has long been an important part of winter celebrations. This Christmas Eve, whether you celebrate or not, we invite you to come together in community to honor the light in each of us. We'll stoke our internal light with a playful, warming vinyasa practice set to a merry and bright playlist. Then we'll relax in a series of restorative postures that encourage us to release the frenzied feeling of the season. 


Mind/Body Bootcamp

Schedule

This dynamic and fun full-body workout blends a variety of movement approaches including strength training, cardio, dance, Pilates, yoga, and mindfulness. We’ll move and play together to flush out stress and tension, build strength, and stretch body and mind so we feel balanced, resilient, and empowered.


Mindful Movement

Schedule

This private, small, group class for students with memory loss and/or cognitive impairment, focuses on gentle movement, breathwork and meditation. This is a vaccinated-only class. Please email a photo of the student’s vaccination card to Kelly@pasttensestudio.com.


Yoga for Better Sleep

Schedule

This class incorporates gentle movement, breathwork, self-care practices, and meditation aimed at helping you sleep more soundly. Feel free to join us in your PJs.

This class is recommended for those with some yoga experience. We recommend having blocks, straps, and a pillow nearby.

 


Outdoor Kids Yoga + Halloween Party

Schedule

We invite kids to join us on Lamont Plaza in costume for a little hocus pocus Halloween Yoga fun. After showing off their costumes, Dayna will lead the kids through some Halloween-inspired yoga poses, a Monster Mash freeze dance, games, storytelling, and treats. This is a BYO Mask and Mat affair. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
